The Peoples Intra District Bus Service project will be officially launched on Monday by Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari in Karachi (today).
The much-anticipated project’s opening coincides with Karachi’s second round of municipal elections, which are rapidly approaching. Many feel the PPP-led Sindh government is luring residents of the city by unveiling projects of public importance in advance of the crucial election process.
As part of the intra-district bus project, about 240 air-conditioned buses imported from China will be used on seven routes throughout Karachi. It is uncertain, meanwhile, whether the bus service will start operating commercially on all seven lines on Monday.
According to a statement released on Sunday, the Sindh transport department had finished all of the necessary planning for the start of the bus service in Karachi.
The inauguration ceremony will be attended by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and members of his cabinet, including Minister of Information Sharjeel Inam Memon, who is also in charge of transportation.
