ISLAMABAD: Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday reached out to Prime Minister Imran Khan, wishing him a speedy recovery from the novel coronavirus.
“President Xi Jinping sent a letter to Honourable PM @ImranKhanPTI and wished him a speedy recovery,” Chinese ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong said in a Twitter post.
He added, “President Xi stressed that China would always stand firmly with Pakistan and join hands [with the country] to defeat the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last week, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished his Pakistani counterpart a speedy recovery from Covid-19. “Best wishes to Prime Minister Imran Khan for a speedy recovery from Covid-19,” Modi had posted from his official Twitter handle.

On March 20, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Dr Faisal Sultan confirmed that the premier had tested positive for coronavirus. Dr Faisal had said that PM was isolating at home.
The news came two days after Pm Imran was vaccinated against the virus. Following the development, the ministry of national health services clarified that the premier was “not fully vaccinated” when he contracted the virus.
The ministry added that only the first dose of the vaccine had been administered, which was “too soon for any vaccine to become effective”.
It further added that anti-bodies against the virus develop 2-3 weeks after the second dose of the vaccine is administered.
