Uzbekistan, U.S. Leaders Hold Phone Talks, Agree to Boost Strategic Partnership

Tashkent/Washington – On September 5, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and U.S. President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation, during which they agreed to expand their strategic partnership and strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation across a wide range of sectors.

President Trump praised Uzbekistan’s irreversible reforms in recent years, particularly efforts aimed at modernizing the economy and improving public welfare. In response, President Mirziyoyev congratulated the U.S. leader on the achievements of his administration’s domestic and foreign policy, noting Washington’s role in global peace and stability.

The talks highlighted plans to expand trade and business cooperation, with a focus on key industries including civil aviation, energy, agriculture, mineral resources, electrical engineering, digital technologies, finance, innovation, and education. In 2024, bilateral trade turnover rose by 15 percent, reflecting steady growth in economic ties.

Both leaders emphasized the importance of security cooperation, especially in countering terrorism, extremism, and illegal migration. Cultural and humanitarian ties are also strengthening, with U.S. universities successfully operating branches in Tashkent. President Trump also wished Uzbekistan’s national football team success as it prepares for its debut in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States.

Regional and global issues were discussed as well, including cooperation under the “C5+1” framework between Central Asian states and the U.S. President Mirziyoyev invited President Trump to make an official visit to Uzbekistan at a convenient time.

The conversation was described as constructive, open, and friendly, underscoring the growing depth of Uzbek-American relations and the commitment of both sides to continue high-level contacts.
