A doctor in the UK who performed unsafe circumcisions on children has been sentenced to 5 years and 7 months in prison. He will be under supervision for another 5 years after the sentence is completed.
According to British media, Dr. Muhammad Siddiqui, 58, of the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust in Birmingham, was sentenced.
Dr. Muhammad Siddiqui had confessed to 25 crimes in court.
Dr. Muhammad Siddiqui was accused of going to on-call homes to perform circumcisions on children in order to earn more money.
However, in serious violation of health rules, he was unable to make safety arrangements that are essential for the health of children.
Of the children who were circumcised at their homes by the doctor, one child narrowly escaped death, while dozens of children suffered severe pain and infection.
In 2015, the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service revoked Dr. Muhammad Siddiqui’s General Medical Council registration because he had performed circumcisions on four children in their homes, in serious breach of hygiene rules.
Despite this, Dr. Siddiqui continued to perform these operations and continued to perform services in various cities in the US under the name of mobile clinics, charging £300 per circumcision.
