A special committee of the Election Commission will start an investigation from today on the allegations of former Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaquat Ali Chatta, who claimed election rigging.
In the Rawalpindi division comprising of Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang, and Murree, National Assembly has 13 seats while the Punjab Assembly has 26 seats.
According to the sources, during the investigation, the special committee of the Election Commission will record the statements of the returning officers of 13 constituencies of the National Assembly and 26 constituencies of the Provincial Assembly from Rawalpindi Division.
Sources said that it has also been decided to write a letter to Chairman Pemra to obtain the transcript of the statement of Commissioner Rawalpindi in the meeting of the Committee of Election Commission on the allegations of former Commissioner Rawalpindi.
It should be remembered that two days ago former Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaquat Ali Chatta announced his resignation admitting irregularities in the general elections.
While holding a press conference at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatta said that I did injustice in Rawalpindi Division during the elections, we changed the lost candidates to a lead of 50, 50 thousand, 13 M of Rawalpindi Division. NZ was a loser, they got 70, 70 thousand leads and toyed with the country.
Liaquat Ali Chatta said, “I accept the responsibility of election rigging in Rawalpindi Division and hand over myself to the police announcing my resignation from my post. I should be given the death penalty in Rawalpindi’s Kachhari Chowk.”
After the claim of rigging the election by Commissioner Rawalpindi, the Election Commission had set up a special committee to investigate the allegations.
The special committee formed by the Election Commission will be chaired by a senior member of the Election Commission, while the committee will include the Secretary, Special Secretary and Additional Director General Law.
This committee will record the statements of Rawalpindi DROs and concerned ROs in this regard and submit its report to the Election Commission within three days.
After receiving the report of the committee, a decision will also be taken regarding contempt of the Election Commission or other legal action against Commissioner Rawalpindi.
