Karachi: After consultation with the Sindh Cabinet, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has decided to restore the death quota.

The Sindh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, approved a series of policy decisions.

The approval includes restoration of deceased quota, measures to empower farmers through collective use of resources, empowering Sindh Bank to open and process Letters of Credit (LCs) for imported goods, bringing Lyari River under the jurisdiction of TMC Lyari, and releasing Rs 497.574 million for upgradation of Rohri Railway Station, among other matters.

The meeting held at the Chief Minister House was attended by provincial ministers, advisors, special assistants, chief secretary, principal secretary to the Chief Minister Sindh and other senior officers. The cabinet reviewed major reforms in employment policy, agriculture, education, health, infrastructure and financial governance.

Deceased Quota Cases: The Chief Minister, in consultation with the Cabinet, decided that cases under the deceased quota whose applications were submitted before September 2024 and meet other conditions, will be processed on merit.

The Cabinet noted that the deceased quota policy was introduced in 2002. It was further observed that the Supreme Court of Pakistan, by its judgment dated 26.09.2024, had declared all legal documents related to deceased quota as discriminatory and ultra vires. Consequently, the Government of Sindh had stopped processing deceased quota cases in view of the said judgment.

After detailed deliberations, the Cabinet approved that deceased quota cases filed before September 2024 may be considered as per law and processed on merit by the concerned departments.
