ISLAMABAD : While hearing a suo-motu case over a video clip went viral on social media containing derogatory remarks against judiciary and a sitting judge of the top court Justice Qazi Faez Isa, the Supreme Court on Friday summoned director general Federal Investigation Agency to ascertain what steps the agency has taken to curb recent maligning move against the judiciary in response to the presidential reference dismissal against Justice Isa. On June 25, the country’s top judge Justice Gulzar Ahmed took suo motu notice for Friday over a video viral on social media in the matter as days after the Supreme Court quashed a presidential reference against Justice Isa, his wife Sarina Isa expressed that her husband received a death threat via a video in which the intimidator can be heard saying: “Isa should be shot publicly.” Sarina Isa has also filed an application with Police Station Secretariat Islamabad, seeking registration of first information report (FIR), however, the Islamabad Police has referred the matter to the FIA to probe into the case. Appearing before a three-member bench of the Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed on Friday in the matter principal law officer Khalid Javed Khan apprised soon after the spouse of Justice Qazi Faiz Isa has filed application for FIR, the Islamabad police sent the matter to FIA which is relating to internet activity and falls under jurisdiction of the FIA which is taking action under Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016. Addressing the Attorney General for Pakistan Khalid Javed Khan, the Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed questioned what was happening whereas a member of the bench Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan observed through the viral video on social media an institution of the country has been threatened besides ridiculing name of a sitting judge of the institution. After hearing the suo motu notice, Iftikhar-ud-Din Mirza, the man who allegedly threatened Justice Qazi Faiz Issa in the video, was detained by the police after he left the court room. Counsel for Mirza informed the Chief Justice that his client was in custody of police without any order of the court to which Chief Justice inquired from the police about grounds to arrest Mirza but police failed to satisfy the court. However, the Chief Justice asked police to free Mirza. Later, the court issued directives to director general FIA and Mirza to appear in person before the court and adjourned the hearing till July 02
