ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office has issued a statement regarding the presence of Iranian aircraft in Pakistan.
The Foreign Office has strongly rejected the CBS News report on the presence of Iranian aircraft at Nur Khan Airbase, calling it misleading and sensational.
The statement issued by the spokesperson said that such speculative reports appear to be an attempt to undermine the ongoing efforts for peace and stability in the region.
According to the statement, several Iranian and American aircraft arrived in Pakistan after the ceasefire and during the initial phase of the Islamabad talks to facilitate the movement of diplomatic staff, security teams and administrative personnel associated with the negotiation process.
In this regard, some aircraft and support staff were temporarily present in Pakistan in anticipation of the upcoming stages of the negotiations.
The Foreign Office said that although formal negotiations have not resumed, high-level diplomatic contacts have continued. In this context, existing administrative and logistical facilities were used for the visits of the Iranian Foreign Minister to Islamabad.
The statement further said that the Iranian aircraft present in Pakistan came during the ceasefire and have nothing to do with any military emergency or any kind of security arrangement. All claims to the contrary are speculative, misleading and completely out of touch with the facts.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, Pakistan has always played the role of a neutral, constructive and responsible facilitator to promote dialogue and de-escalation efforts. In this role, Pakistan provided routine logistical and administrative support as required while also maintaining transparent communication with all relevant parties.
The Foreign Office in its statement reiterated its commitment that Pakistan will continue to support all sincere diplomatic efforts to promote peace, stability and security in the region and the world.
