ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered to accelerate the country’s development projects through public-private partnership.
A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to accelerate development projects through public-private partnership in the country, in which important decisions were taken.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister gave in-principle approval to further integrate the Public-Private Partnership Authority (P3A) and its related systems. In addition, it was decided in the meeting that in order to align the performance of P3A with modern requirements and accelerate development projects under public-private partnership, this institution will work under the Privatization Division.
The Prime Minister directed that the capacity of the relevant ministries and departments be improved in terms of launching development projects through public-private partnership.
The Prime Minister further directed that development projects through Public Private Partnership should be made a part of the Performance Measurement (KPIs) of ministries and departments. He said that the Public Private Partnership system is being made more transparent and faster through P3A.
The meeting was presented with a comparison of the Public Private Partnership models prevalent in different countries in the region and globally, while a briefing was also given on the features of the proposed new system.
The meeting was informed that under the new system, the Cabinet Committee on Privatization and Privatization Division will monitor P3A, on which the Prime Minister directed to expedite the progress on the implementation of the newly approved system.
The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Dr. Mosaddiq Malik, Azam Nazir Tarar, Ahad Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ahsan Iqbal, Advisor to the Prime Minister Muhammad Ali, Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani and relevant senior officials.
