ISLAMABAD: Maulana Fazlur Rahman, the leader of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F), declared on Sunday that he will join the suit filed by PML-Q leader Parvez Elahi challenging the decision of Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari.
The JUI-F leader announced during a news conference that he will urge the Supreme Court to join the lawsuit as a party.
He also requested that a full court of the Supreme Court be established to hear the petition, echoing the request of two significant parties in the PDM, the PPP and the PML-N.He claimed that the party’s head has the final say in the party’s policy and that all other office bearers (lawmakers), including Akram Khan Durrani and Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, must abide by it.
“A party leader leads their parliamentary party even though they’re not a member [of the house],” he said, adding that a new debate has begun over whether only the parliamentary leader has the power to lead the party in the assembly in the wake of the Punjab Assembly debacle.
Our correspondent continues: Separately, on Sunday, Maulana Fazl, the president of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), cautioned reporters in his native Dera Ismail Khan hamlet of Abdul Khel that the ruling coalition “would never accept any meddling, be it mild or hard, in national issues.”
His comments come a day after several news outlets said that the establishment had proposed a “soft intervention” to end the present political crisis, which has been simmering ever since the ouster of former prime minister Imran Khan in April via a resolution of no confidence.
