Another significant increase in the cost of electricity for K-Electric customers has been approved by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra).
As the city continues to endure lengthy periods of load-shedding, an increase of Rs9.42 per unit has been allowed for the May 2022 fuel costs adjustment (FCA).
During a public hearing on KE’s appeal asking for an increase in the electricity pricing by Rs11.34 per unit under the FCA for May, Nepra authorised the most recent increase in the power tariff. Nepra nevertheless approved Rs9.42 for each unit.
In its petition, KE claimed that it imported power from outside sources and distributed it in accordance with the economic merit order from its generation units. They said that furnace oil prices increased by 38% and LNG by 50% in May compared to March, and that contractors for LNG also made unpaid obligations in May.
According to KE authorities, the national grid is supplying the power utility with less energy as a result of a shortfall.
The chairman of Nepra stated that if the business was having trouble offering inexpensive electricity, it might turn to the electricity regulating authority for assistance. He continued, “We are prepared to speak with the federal and provincial governments for affordable electricity.”
