ISLAMABAD: There is a possibility of further increase in electricity prices for consumers across the country, including Karachi.

Electricity distribution companies have requested the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) to increase the price by 19 paisa per unit. The CPPA has sought this increase for August as part of the monthly fuel adjustment, which will be heard on September 29.

The application stated that a total of 14.22 billion units of electricity were generated in August, out of which 13.71 billion units were supplied to distribution companies. The average cost of electricity was Rs 7.50 per unit, while the reference cost was Rs 7.31 per unit.

The increase in electricity prices under the monthly adjustment will also be applicable to K-Electric consumers, meaning that electricity consumers across the country will be affected as a result of the price increase.
