Karachi: Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab has hinted at strict measures against those who spread garbage in the city.
While talking to the media on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Murtaza Wahab said that those who spread garbage may face 3 years in prison and fines, and steps are being taken to clean the city in collaboration with the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board.
Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has criticized political opponents and said that the condition of hospitals managed by KMC worsened during the MQM era, while Jamaat-e-Islami sacrificed the proposal of a cardiovascular hospital in the Central District for politics.
A golden jubilee ceremony was held at the hospital to mark the 50th anniversary of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. On this occasion, the IT department, labs, dental OPD and morgue were upgraded in the hospital, while CT scan and mammography were also started. Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab and Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, among others, were also present at the inauguration ceremony.
Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that this hospital was established by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto for the people of District Central, but in the last fifty years, the plight of the hospital is in front of the people. The resources of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital are the trust of the people and they are being used for public welfare. The largest morgue of KMC has been reactivated in the hospital, where facilities are provided to keep 60 dead bodies with dignity.
Murtaza Wahab said that the CT scan facility is being provided at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for only Rs. 1,500, while in other institutions it is available for Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 6,000. Similarly, the mammography facility, which is provided for Rs. 13,000 in private hospitals, is available here for only Rs. 1,500.
