ISLAMABAD: Pakistan recorded at least 661 coronavirus diagnoses on Sunday amid concerns of an impending Covid wave, prompting the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) to warn people to practise social distance and take preventative measures, especially in light of Muharram.
According to the information provided by the NCOC, a person died from the virus in Punjab during the past 24 hours, bringing the country’s overall positivity rate for the disease to 3.29 percent. As of Sunday, 171 people had a critical condition.
The national organisation urged individuals to carefully abide by anti-coronavirus measures, such as using face masks and sanitizers, in relation to public meetings and procession that would be performed in connection with Muharram.
The NCOC noted that participants in majalis and processions are now required to wear masks and sanitizers.
Only immunised individuals would be permitted to attend majalis, which would be held in open areas with sufficient air, according to the command and operation centre. It further said that during meetings and processions, social distance must be maintained.
