BEIJING: General Fang Fenghui, member of China’s Central Military Commission (CMC) and chief of the Joint Staff Department under the CMC, met with Lieutenant General Zubair Mahmood Hayat, chief of general staff of the Pakistan Army, reports Chinese Military’s sources on Saturday.
Gen. Fang Fenghui said that China and Pakistan are ‘iron brothers’ with all-weather partnership. Chinese President Xi Jinping has reached important consensuses with Pakistani leaders on deepening the pragmatic cooperation between the two countries and building China-Pakistan community of common destiny during their meetings in recent years, Gen. Fang stated.
The Chinese side is willing to make joint efforts with the Pakistani side to achieve the two countries’ common development, so as to benefit the peoples of the two countries, Fang continued. Fang expressed that the Chinese military is willing to work with the Pakistani military to strengthen strategic communication, deepen the pragmatic cooperation in such fields as joint exercises and training, construction of anti-terrorism capability and information sharing.
Fang also stressed that the two militaries shall make full use of the Quadrilateral Cooperation and Coordination Mechanism (among Afghanistan, China, Pakistan and Tajikistan) to counter terrorism, and push forward the implementation of China’s Belt and Road Initiative as well as the in-depth development of the China-Pakistan all-weather strategic partnership, so as to make positive contributions to safeguarding regional and world peace and stability.
Lt. Gen. Zubair said that Pakistan and China with the unique, example-type relations are both good friends and ‘iron brothers’. He hoped that the two sides can further strengthen their cooperation in various fields especially in defense and security sectors, push forward the Quadrilateral Cooperation and Coordination Mechanism, so as to jointly safeguard the regional peace and stability.
The Pakistani military resolutely supports China to push forward its Belt and Road Initiative and is willing to provide all support for maintaining the security of the Pakistan-China Economic Corridor, he added.
