ISLAMABAD: There is only one day left for the ceasefire between the US and Iran to expire, while there is a strong possibility of a second round of talks in Islamabad, the second round of which will begin tomorrow.

The ongoing ceasefire between the US and Iran has entered its final phase. There is only one day left for the ceasefire to end and the ceasefire period will end at 12 midnight on April 21.

The two countries will decide on the extension of the ceasefire at the negotiating table tomorrow, while there is a strong possibility that the second round of talks between the two countries will begin tomorrow in Islamabad. The US delegation will arrive in Islamabad by this evening.

According to sources, a significant breakthrough is expected to reduce tensions between the United States and Iran. US President Donald Trump has announced that his negotiating team will arrive in Islamabad today.

On the other hand, strict security arrangements have been made in the federal capital. Movement in the red zone has been restricted while additional personnel have been deployed at sensitive locations, which has further increased the chances of early commencement of talks.

According to sources, Iran has also expressed reservations over some recent developments, however, Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts are ongoing to bring both countries to the negotiating table.

Sources say the aim of the talks is to convert the ceasefire into a permanent peace agreement. Earlier, no final agreement could be reached during the first round of talks held in Islamabad, but both sides agreed to continue the talks.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif contacted Iranian President Masoud Peshmerga last night and offered him talks, while Ishaq Dar has contacted several countries including the Iranian Foreign Minister, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Turkey, and Pakistan is hopeful that these talks will be successful and Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts will bear fruit.
