After 41 years, Pakistan is once again hosting a meeting of the OIC foreign ministers. This time the focus of the meeting will be to find a way out to engage with Afghanistan to avert the possible humanitarian crisis in the Pakistan’s neighbor.
Besides expressing solidarity with the Afghan people, the CFM is expected to explore avenues for containing and reversing the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, especially in terms of food shortages, displacement of people and a potential economic collapse.
The first Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers was also held in Islamabad, in January 1980, also to consider the situation in Afghanistan. The last CFM hosted by Pakistan was in 2007. The Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) will be preceded by the senior officials meeting on December 18.
The meeting of OIC members is also being attended by the US, Germany, Japan, EU, Australia, France as well as representatives of international financial institutions, making it the biggest international gathering on Afghanistan since the Taliban captured Kabul.
Prime Minister Imran Khan will also deliver the keynote address and share role Pakistan’s, hoping that it would prove to be a stepping stone in finding a solution to the looming humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan while the Afghan delegation attending the moot is being led by Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.
The development is coming out on a time when there is a dire need for the Afghanistan issues to be addressed. Pakistan, from day first has shown its commitment and good will for supporting the people of Afghanistan, who have been victim of wars which were never meant for them.
Along with other parts of the world, the current leadership of Afghanistan is also accepting the role which Pakistan is playing for bring peace and stability in the region. Speaking to the media on arrival at Islamabad International Airport, Acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Amir Khan Muttaqi said a stable Afghanistan is important for peace not only in the region but the whole world. He assured that Afghan land will not be allowed to be used against any other country.
Amir Khan Muttaqi said Afghanistan has lot of expectations from the OIC meeting and hoped this will also help improve health sector in the country.
Unity among Muslim world is indispensible to deal with the challenges of the contemporary world. Pakistan has always come forth to lead the Muslim world wherever it felt the need and the same is being repeated in dealing with the Afghanistan crisis.
The OIC must come up with a best solution in favour of the people of Afghanistan to avert any possible humanitarian crisis threat. Besides this, let’s not forget the Kashmir issue. The huddle must highlight the plight of Kashmiris and condemn the brutalities of India with strong words to make the global community understand about the sensitivity of the Kashmir issue
