The Taliban government’s first diplomatic visit since taking power in Afghanistan has arrived in Japan. According to the international news agency, the Taliban delegation includes officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Higher Education, the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Health.
The Taliban delegation will stay in Japan for a week. This rare visit is part of the Taliban’s efforts to build relations with the international community.
The Taliban have visited neighboring countries such as China, Russia and Central Asian countries in recent years, but diplomatic contact has always taken place in a third country.
It should be noted that the Taliban attended diplomatic meetings in Europe in 2022 and 2023.
Afghanistan’s Deputy Minister of Economy, Latif Nazari, said in a tweet that the visit is part of an effort to establish dignified relations on the global level and make Afghanistan a “strong, united, developed and prosperous” country.
He also expressed the desire that the Taliban government wants to play a role as an active member of the international community.
On the other hand, according to Japanese media, the Japanese embassy was temporarily moved to Qatar after the Taliban took power, but it has now reopened and diplomatic and aid activities in Afghanistan have resumed.
It should be noted that this visit to Japan is taking place at a time when a suicide bomb attack has taken place in Kabul, for which ISIS has claimed responsibility.
The attack took place outside the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing and is part of the growing security challenges in Afghanistan.
The Japanese embassy condemned the attack and appealed for the prevention of such terrorist incidents.
