Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain on Tuesday apologized to Shireen Mazari for his disrespectful statements about her; it should be enough to put a full stop to the latest tirade exchanged between the MQM and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI).
Altaf Hussain also asked for forgiveness from all women participants of the PTI marathon sit-in in Islamabad. The MQM chief was earlier criticized for making what PTI leaders described as derogatory statements against the PTI senior leader. Mazari welcomed the apology by Altaf Hussain and said Islam teaches us to forgive those who apologize.
Earlier, the MQM founder had passed derogatory remarks against PTI Information Secretary Shireen Mazari and other female participants of the PTI rallies that seem to have instigated the controversy. But in response Chief of PTI Imran Khan came hard on MQM Chief and termed him a psychopath and a coward. He vowed not to sit with the MQM at any forum unless it dissociates itself from its chief Altaf Hussain. He also urged the federal government to take action against the MQM on the basis of the JIT report. MQM office-bearers had termed the PTI as another wing of the Taliban. They called Imran an immature political leader who makes speeches under the influence of drugs.
Leaders of both parties have passed insulting remarks against each other but situation demands that both leaders follow basic manners while uttering any words. There should be some norms and values to be followed in a civilized society. The use of offensive words against women is not justifiable on any account; women must be encouraged to play active role in politics.
Both political leaders must understand that they are setting a bad example at a time when the country is fighting a war against terrorism. It is the need of the hour that both parties pacify the situation and work towards a tolerant society.
