ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and leader of the Opposition Syed Khursheed Shah during their meeting on Monday could not agree on nominating new Chief Election Commissioner.
Talking to media after his meeting with the PM, Syed Khursheed Shah said that five to six names were considered during the meeting including some old and some new but they could not reach a consensus. He was hopeful that the name would be decided by tomorrow (Tuesday) during his meeting with the PM and new CEC would be appointed before 5th December, the date given by the Supreme Court to withdraw the Acting Chief Election Commissioner. He said the Attorney General would inform the Supreme Court about the new appointment.
He refused to divulge the names under consideration saying that comments would start coming on them if the names were disclosed.
Shah said that efforts were being made to appoint a non-controversial CEC, but he was quick to add that some people may still raise objections. INP
