ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday constituted a federal cabinet committee to suggest measures and relief efforts that Pakistan can undertake for Myanmar’s Rohingya Muslims.
The committee members include Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, adviser on national and foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz and special assistant to the premier Tariq Fatemi.
The committee will meet on Sunday to deliberate on the issue of Rohingya Muslims and evaluate Pakistan’s role in alleviating their misery.
Earlier, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan called upon the international organizations to take notice of genocide of Muslims of Rohingya.
In a statement on Saturday, the Interior Minister said that silence of United Nations, Organization of Islamic Cooperation and other world bodies over the massacre of Muslims in Rohingya has raised many questions.
“The inaction of the international community and criminal silence of the proponents of human rights and organizations over the gross violations of the rights of Rohingya Muslims and their persecution and genocide raises serious questions about the utility and effectiveness of international forums that proclaim themselves as upholder, defender and promoter of human rights and democratic values,” Nisar said.
The Interior Minister while making impassioned appeal to the United Nations, OIC, the Muslim World and the regional powers asked the international community not to close their eyes to this genocide. He cautioned them that the level of atrocities and scale of oppression of the hapless Muslims in this part of the world would nullify recent efforts aimed at addressing the grievances of the Muslims to wean away their youth falling into the traps of militants.
The Interior Minister also lamented that except for a few countries, no serious effort has been witnessed from the Muslim world to check the oppressor and to plead the case of the oppressed community. This, he said, speaks volumes of our apathy and indifferent attitude towards our fellow brethren and is a matter of serious concern for the entire Muslim world.
