ISLAMABAD, Oct 31 (INP): Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has constituted a Cabinet Committee to examine the issue of over billing of electricity consumption and to propose relief measures for domestic consumers, especially those belonging to lower and middle class.
The PM formed the committee during meeting of the Cabinet here on Friday. Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar will be Convenor of the committee while its members are Federal Ministers Ch Nisar AliKhan, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Engr Khurram Dastgir Khan. Mr. Mohammad Younus Dagha, Secretary W&P, will be Member/Secretary
The committee will be responsible to work out whether the reduction of Rs. 65 billion in circular debt was actually the result of recovery of arrears/receivables or was it because of over-billing.
It will propose the most appropriate form of relief package for domestic consumers of electricity by considering whether the relief package proposed by the Secretary Water & Power practicable or should some more practicable package, to be worked out by the committee, be adopted.
The committee may co-opt any other member if deemed necessary and will present its findings/recommendations to the Cabinet on 6th November 2014. INP
