ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has urged the United Nations to implement its resolutions on Kashmir and stop India from unprovoked shelling along the Line of Control and Working Boundary.
This was stated by Prime Minister’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz during his telephonic conversation with United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon He called for an effective role of United Nations to restore normalcy between the two countries.
The Advisor said Pakistan is fully capable to thwart any aggression, and had responded to India’s provocations with utmost restraint and responsibility. Sartaj Aziz apprised the Secretary General of the frequency and intensity of the Indian firing martyring innocent civilians and damaging property.
He said Pakistan believes in peace, but to achieve this goal, the core issue of Kashmir must be resolved in accordance with UN resolutions and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir State. Sartaj Aziz said rejecting bilateral dialogue and denying international engagement by India is the main cause of tensions in the region.
Appreciating the work of the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan, he stressed its role should be further strengthened to facilitate more effective monitoring and reporting of ceasefire violations.
He said the UN should not be inhibited by non-cooperation of one side. The Secretary-General reiterated his concern on escalation of violence on LoC and deplored the loss of lives. DNA
