A year after leaving Afghanistan, Washington is stronger than ever, according to US Department of State spokeswoman Ned Price, as the Afghan Taliban observed the first anniversary of their takeover of the conflict-torn country, which concluded a 20-year-long US-backed war in 2021.
“It was never going to be simple to end the longest war in American history, but one year later, we are in a stronger position as a country because of the President’s choice,” Price said during a press conference on Monday. He stated that his country is now better equipped to focus on the threats and problems that it faces, as well as the new opportunities that have arisen.
He did, however, say that the conclusion of the military operation does not mark the end of the US’ diplomatic and humanitarian commitment, as the government intends to continue embracing its Afghan allies and providing humanitarian help.In exchange, Price stated that the US expects the Taliban government to follow through on its obligations.
