ISLAMABAD (DNA) :The transporters in twin city of Rawalpindi and Islamabad have refused to reduce fares despite reduction in petroleum rates in the country.
The price of petrol for the month of November had been reduced by Rs. 9.43 per litre to provide the benefit of reduction to the common man.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif directed to all chief misters to ensure passing the benefits to the common man.
However, according to the commuters of the twin cities, the transporters are charging them the excessive fares and are reluctant to reduce fares.
The reduction in petroleum rates could not bring any relief for the residents because the secretary RTA and administration are taking bribe from transporters, the residents said.
Meanwhile, the residents threatened of protest if their demand does not fulfill. Despite passing several days, the city administration could not reduce fares so far.
On contacting the transporter for the comments, the van owners said they did not get any notification regarding fare reduction from transporter association; however, fare would be reduced as soon as they receive new fare rates from association.
The residents have demanded strict action against the transporters for overcharging, overloading and not completing the routes as most of the transporters off-load the commuters at Faizabad saying that can not go ahead due to closure of CNG stations while the city administration have also been asked to take solid measures to ensure reduction in transport fares in the capital. The commuters have warned the administration to implement the laws or it would be responsible for any untoward incident.
