Met Office forecasts more rain

LAHORE: Rain was reported from various parts of provincial metropolis Lahore on Thursday morning as the Pakistan Meteorological Office forecast monsoon spell would continue.Islampura, Gulshan Ravi, Mall Road, Lower Mall, Mozang, and Anarkali received moderate to heavy rainfall which brought relief from humidity. Low-lying areas were inundated while power supply was disrupted in several areas.
Meanwhile, intermittent rain was also reported in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The water level in the Leh Nullah rose to 10 feet, and the spillways of Rawal Dam were opened as the water level reached 1,749 feet.The Met Office forecast heavy rainfall in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and northeast Balochistan in the coming 12 hours.
The current monsoon spell has so far claimed 252 lives, with 611 injured. Among the dead are 121 children, 85 men, and 46 women. Punjab recorded the highest number of fatalities – 139 – followed by 60 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 24 in Sindh, 16 in Balochistan, six in Islamabad, and two in Azad Kashmir.
