Mirpurkhas: Medical student who committed suicide was suffering from severe mental stress due to harassment, report says

Mirpurkhas: The investigation into the death of a medical student in Mirpurkhas has been accelerated. The PM&DC fact-finding team met the family and found that the student was suffering from mental stress due to harassment.

According to an investigation into the tragic death of Fehmida Leghari, a third-year student of Muhammad Medical College, Mirpurkhas, who committed suicide, is underway. PM&DC President Professor Dr. Rizwan Taj has formed a fact-finding committee. A senior officer of PM&DC visited the house of the affected family and formally submitted the report to PMDC.

According to the family, the deceased had been suffering from severe mental stress for several days before the incident, allegedly due to constant harassment by some individuals, including fellow students. The student also complained to the college administration, but according to them, no effective action was taken.

According to the report, relevant materials and preliminary evidence have been provided, while further clarification is expected after forensic examination of mobile data.

In this regard, the President PMDC has said that anti-harassment committees should not only be established but also effective, functional and accessible to students. If the institutional system fails, students should directly contact the PM&D Harassment Committee.
