After withdrawal of former CJP, Tassaduq Gillani for leading EC, Justice (r) Tariq Pervez has appeared to be most favourite contender for the CEC slot. Political parties hold him in high esteem as he refused to take oath under Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) while serving as chief justice of the Peshawar High Court and later joined the movement for restoration of an independent judiciary.
Sources told The Patriot Monday that Justice (r) Tassaduq Hussain Jillani has refused to take the job as chief election commissioner (CEC).
Former judge Jillani has told Finance Minister Ishaq Dar that he can not present himself for the post as the matter has become controversial, sources revealed.
Tassaduq Hussain Jillani has already served as an acting CEC from August 17 to November 30, 2013.He assumed the office of the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) in December 2013 after the retirement of Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
