PESHAWAR: An election tribunal on Thursday disqualified of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) MPA Behram Khan over charges of providing a fake degree with his nomination papers in the 2008 general elections.
Malik Behram Khan was elected as MPA on Jamaat-e-Islami ticket from PK-93, Upper Dir-III in the general elections.
The runner-up candidate of Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Sahibzada Sanaullah had challenged his victory in election tribune saying Mr. Behram had submitted a fake degree with his nomination papers at the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Upon hearing the arguments and verification for his Bachelor of Arts degree from theUniversity of Malakand, the tribunal turned down his victory and directed the Election Commission of Pakistan to hold re-election in the constituency.
The JI candidate had secured 13,580 votes followed by 9,799 votes in favour of the PPP candidate. Behram is currently the chairman of the standing committee on finance and a member of the committees on administration, home and tribal affairs and communication and works.
