ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal says that a detailed review and initial estimate of the losses from the 2025 floods will be completed in ten days.
A meeting of the Prime Minister’s Committee chaired by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal was held in Islamabad in which the estimates of losses from the 2025 floods were reviewed.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Chairman NDMA, Secretary Ministry of Climate Change and Chief Secretaries of the provincial governments attended the meeting.
Ahsan Iqbal said that the provincial governments are of the view that the final assessment of the flood losses will be possible after the water recedes, to which Professor Ahsan Iqbal said that rehabilitation and relief work is underway in the flood-affected areas.
He said that speculation on the losses from the floods should be avoided, accurate figures will be released soon and, like in 2022, the losses from natural disasters will be estimated with the cooperation of international organizations.
Ahsan Iqbal said that climate change is a major challenge for Pakistan, while floods and droughts are its direct effects. The melting of glaciers has increased the risk of floods, the government is making a comprehensive national plan.
The federal minister said that India has played politics in natural disasters, it is necessary to deal with it.
