On Tuesday, PTI Chairman Imran Khan rejected the idea of extending General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s (COAS) term until the following elections.
The former prime minister had urged the nomination of an army leader be postponed until the new government is elected, which would then choose the next military head, during a speech
“I never talked about the extension of the army leader’s tenure, I merely requested to wait the appointment of the army head until the upcoming elections,” Khan said in a meeting with journalists.
The former premier claimed that he never stated who should lead the military and added that the newly elected administration should choose the army chief based solely on merit.
Khan asserted that the two families—the Sharif and Zardari families—should never choose the head of the armed forces, adding, “I did not say anything to elicit a comment from Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).”
In September, the former premier made the decision to urge the country to demonstrate against the administration.
