Technology company Google has introduced an important new feature in the Android version of Google Chrome to further secure users’ online privacy, under which users will now be able to share only their approximate location instead of their exact location.
After the new update, users will have the option to provide websites with only their nearest or general location instead of telling them their street, building or exact geographical location. According to experts, this approximate location is sufficient for most websites, which will reduce the risk of unnecessary disclosure of personal information.
Previously, Google Chrome usually asked users for precise location access, which privacy experts have expressed concerns about and called unnecessary.
According to reports, users will still have the option to turn on precise location if an app or website, such as mapping services or ride-hailing platforms, requires precise location.
Google also plans to introduce a new API in the future, with the help of which web developers will be able to clearly determine whether they need a user’s approximate location or a completely accurate location.
Technology experts are calling this update a major breakthrough in the field of online privacy, as it will give users more control over their personal information than ever before and will further improve security while using the Internet.
