The federal cabinet claims that former prime minister Imran Khan broke the “Official Secrets Act” and his oath of office by giving a diplomatic cypher a false meaning in order to advance his political ambitions.
The diplomatic cypher copy was mentioned in the high-level meeting, which was presided over by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday, and it was said that the copy belonged to the PM House.
The cabinet established a special committee to decide whether to take legal action against everyone allegedly involved, including Imran Khan, the former principal secretary to PM Azam Khan, and senior ministers of the previous PTI administration, while also describing the theft of the cypher from the records as a serious matter.
In the meanwhile, the meeting went to great length on the subject of audio leaks and supported the NSC’s decision to launch a comprehensive inquiry.
The NSC gave its approval on Wednesday for a group to be formed to look into audio leaks.
Later, it was claimed and presented as evidence that the cypher was real and that it was time for the cypher issue to be thoroughly investigated when the audio recordings of the deposed PM Imran Khan’s discussions with his chief secretary and party officials came to light.
The tape leak said PM Shehbaz, has completely disproved Imran Khan’s “foreign conspiracy thesis.” The PTI leadership, on the other hand, claims that the PTI government acted responsibly by delaying naming the nation—the US—until the then-cabinet declassified the cypher.
The security of the nation’s highest office has been compromised amid the charges and calls for additional investigations, and concerns have been raised about who would want to visit a nation where even the PM House was not a secure location for communications.
The audio recordings of Imran Khan, Azam Khan, and other individuals connected to the diplomatic cypher have exposed the “criminal plot” of the past government and ex-PM, which has caused great alarm among the participants at the federal cabinet meeting.
