Country suffered losses of more than $100 billion in war on terror, NA told

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly was informed on Wednesday that the cost of losses caused to the country in war against terrorism is estimated at more than one hundred billion rupees.

The Parliamentary Secretary for Interior Maryam Aurangzeb told the House during question hour that the provinces are accorded help on case to case basis.

She said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa received over eleven billion rupees during 2009 to date in this regard.

To a question, Maryam Aurangzeb said Pakistan has signed agreements on transfer of offenders and sentenced persons with four countries, which are Thailand, UAE, Turkey andYemen.

She said by-laws have been finalized with Thailand whereas these are being finalized with other three countries. She said forty two prisoners have been transferred from Thailand toPakistan under the agreement.

To another question, she said Anti-Narcotics Force is running three model addiction treatment and rehabilitation centres, one each at Islamabad, Quetta and Karachi.

Answering a question, Parliamentary Secretary for Cabinet Secretariat, Raja Javed Ikhlas told the House that Pakistan received over 216 million dollars foreign direct investment during July-September of the current financial year. He expressed the hope that due to improvement in the law and order situation in the country, the investment will increase.
