The Pakistan Super League (PSL) on Friday saw a thrilling contest between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators. The Gladiators emerged victorious on the final delivery of the match. Peshawar Zalmis were in command for most of the match and needed to score just eight runs in the final over to seal their passage to the final. Despite his disappointing earlier overs, Quetta skipper Sarfraz Ahmed handed the ball to Aizaz Cheema with the difficult task of defending eight runs. Despite conceding a four on the second ball of the over, Cheema kept his cool taking two wickets and handing Quetta a memorable 1-run victory.
After the game Peshawar Zalmi skipper Shahid Afridi who disappointed fans by his poor dismissal said that the result could have been different had Wahab Riaz survived one more delivery. The Peshawar captain has a habit of throwing away matches due to his non serious attitude. He was recently at the center of attention after labeling a reporter’s question rubbish ‘ghatia’. However, the Peshawar and the Pakistan T20 captain should look at the behavior and passion of some of the cricketers from West Indies including his teammate Darren Sammy.
But most importantly the passion and commitment of Quetta Gladiators mentor, the cricketing legend from West Indies Sir Vivian Richards. The West Indian great lives and breathes cricket and looks distraught when his team doesn’t perform to the level. Yesterday too, he was almost in tears as the match seemed to slip from Quetta. Similarly Shahid Afridi’s teammate Darren Sammy was on the brink of breaking down after his side lost.
Shahid Afridi can learn a lot from the passion & commitment of Sir Vivian Richards.
