COAS spends Eid with troops in NWA, PM visits Narowal flood victims

NAROWAL/RAWALPINDI (INP): Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif spent Eidul Azha with soldiers fighting terrorists in North Waziristan Agency, while Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited Narowal to meet flood victims on Monday.

General Raheel Sharif offered Eid prayers in Wana and later visited Miranshah.

DG ISPR Asim Bajwa, in a tweet, said the army chief also visited a camp of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Bakakhel and pledged continued support to them.

The army chief later visited an IDPs camp in Bannu where he said the Army will work for maximum relief and rehabilitation.

Further, he announced a Fata youth package which will induct 14,000 men from Fata in the Army, and 1,000 people will be inducted in the first six months.

General Raheel also announced free education facilities for 1,500 children in Fata which will be provided in Army schools and colleges.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif inspected damage done by the recent floods and appreciated the Punjab government’s efforts in dealing with the catastrophe. He also announced compensation for the damage caused by the floods.

“Every house that has been damaged will be compensated for,” he said, adding that measures would be taken to prevent such damage in the future, however that will cost a lot.  He reiterated that the government would work hard to make such projects possible and eradicate poverty from across the country.

Ahsan Iqbal accompanied the prime minister on his visit to the flood-hit region.
