WASHINGTON: According to President Arif Alvi, Pakistani Americans should support the current administration’s efforts to strengthen ties with the US, as they have with previous administrations.
At the Association of Pakistani Physicians of North America’s annual meeting, the president stated that Pakistan “belongs to all parties, and all parties, when in power, have strived to retain cordial relations with the United States” (APPNA).
I’m aware that the current administration, like its forerunners, is working to strengthen ties with Washington, he added. And as Pakistani Americans, you can help by supporting this initiative whoever is in power.
President Alvi stated that, having lived in the US, he was aware of the close personal and professional ties that Pakistani Americans have with other US citizens.
Use such connections to support Pakistan, allay concerns, and advocate for your country, he advised. “Reach out to your senators, representatives, and convey the significance of Pakistan to them. Why it must be considered.
He emphasised that Americans’ attempts to comprehend how Kabul fell were met with “heartburn and concerns” due to the hasty US exit from Afghanistan. “Sit in your part. Tell your friends about Pakistan’s perspective, whether it be political or personal.
The president advised the Pakistani community to maintain its solidarity and not let political divisions jeopardise important national interests.
However, PTI supporters who predominated the crowd stopped the journalist when he indicated that former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s claim of American meddling in Pakistan’s domestic affairs has undercut such efforts. Additionally, they stopped the president from commenting on what he said.
In addition, President Alvi argued that Pakistanis, whether they were in Pakistan or elsewhere, could not keep silent about the treatment of Muslims in India and Kashmir.
