After 14 years, eight months, and eight days, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, who will turn 77 on November 1, has retaken the position as chief minister of Punjab.
From November 29, 2002, until November 18, 2007, Pervez Elahi was the 14th chief minister of Punjab, a position he held for four years and 354 days.
In the midst of what looks to be severe political unrest that has swept the nation since April 10 of this year, when then-prime minister Imran Khan was ousted, he has now assumed duties as the 20th province chief executive.
The only national politician in the nation, Pervez Elahi, was chosen to serve as Deputy Prime Minister on June 25, 2012, as a result of a coalition between the Pakistan Muslim League-Q and the PPP, which was in power at the time.
At the time, he served as the federal minister of defence manufacturing and industries. Prior to March 16, 2013, Pervez Elahi, an industrial management graduate of London’s Watford College of Technology, worked here.
He has been in politics for 39 years. He was chosen to serve as the Gujrat district council’s chairman for four years in 1983.
Shehbaz Sharif held the position of chief executive of Punjab for the greatest period of time—11 years—while Sardar Dost Khan Khosa held it for the shortest period of time (58 days).
As a result of the establishment of one-unit in Pakistan, a geopolitical initiative started on November 22, 1954 by then-prime minister Muhammad Ali Bogra to address the challenge of managing the two unequal polities of West and East Pakistan, which were separated by more than 1,000 miles, there was no chief minister in Punjab from 1955 to 1970.
