Gill was detained on Tuesday afternoon near the capital’s Banigala Chowk after a video of his controversial comments aired on went viral on the internet. He was later detained on suspicion of sedition and inciting public dissent against governmental institutions.
According to officials from the capital police, another accusation of deleting evidence and supplying false data was added to the first intelligence report written against Gill on Thursday.
Gill was brought within a week of Judicial Magistrate Umar Shabbir today after his two-day physical remand expired, while PTI supporters gathered outside the court and raised pro-Gill slogans. His handcuffs were removed before the court began, allowing him allowed to confer with his legal team.
When the session began, the investigation team (IO) petitioned the court for a 12-day extension of Gill’s physical remand.
