This was the first day of PM Shahbaz’ regime and the teachers were tortured by the police in Lahore. I wonder if it was the brutal act on the part of Punjab Government ( as the 18th amendment places Police and Law and Order under Provincial subject) or more vibrant PM in Islamabad ordered the authorities to restore the order in Lahore.
The Lecturers from Punjab were demanding for Pay protection. A right they already have under the law and reconfirmed by the superior courts.
As a hapless common man what else can I say except that respected teachers! we are sorry
That is ridiculous. No, that is shameful, shocking, inhuman and outrageous. Use of brutal police force against teachers cannot be justified on any pretext. They were not criminals. They were not terrorists. They did not indulge in any act of subversion. They gathered to protest for the fulfillment of their lawful demands. In a democratic society this is neither unprecedented nor an offence. This is disgusting that they were manhandled by the police.
The elected government is no one’s fiefdom. Better the concerned authorities should come out of their “ den” to listen to the demands of the teachers. But this arrogant attitude on their part has earned no good for the government and the party.
The way the police resorted to the option of baton charge was really disgusting. I wonder if these police officers ever have had the opportunity to sit in any class room. I wonder if they have any respect for the teacher. I wonder if they have any regard and respect for the teachers. I wonder if they are human or some sort of robot that operates on the command of the rulers irrespective of the nature of the order. Had there been lawyers baton charged there would have been protests in the country. Had this treatment be meted out to workers of any political party there would have a huge uproar but alas no segment of the society stood up with the teachers community at this time. Sad. Really sad.
