KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday summoned reply from National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on April 26 on plea filed by Safdar Hussain who is nominated in corruption reference against former Petroleum Minister Dr Asim Hussain.
Justice Abdul Rasool Memon led a two-member bench to hear the plea.
Legal Counsel of the accountability bureau requested the court to grant time for submission of written reply. The court adjourned the hearing until April 26.
The former petroleum minister is facing a reference that alleges him of around Rs 462 billion corruption.
Earlier this month, former president and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari had said that Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif and his government is responsible for ‘Hussain fiasco’.
In an interview given to a private television channel, Zardari cleared that the party did not want a conflict with anybody but to work with the system.
Defending former federal minister, Zardari said that someone running such huge hospitals could not have provided treatment to terrorists.
Zardari further said that it was Dr Hussain who had saved Prime Minister Nawaz from those who conducted massive protests. Had he supported demonstrations, democracy would have derailed, he added.
PPP co-chairman said that his party was in position to form a grand alliance with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) but he would not do that.
On a question about his return to the country, Zardari said that he did not have a desire to get buried in New York and would return. NNI
