Karachi: The Sindh High Court has suspended the decision of Islamabad High Court Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri to cancel the degree of the University of Karachi.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro heard the petition against the cancellation of the degree of Islamabad High Court Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri by the University of Karachi.

Advocate General Sindh, Registrar University of Karachi Professor Imran Siddiqui and others appeared in the court on this occasion, where the Registrar University of Karachi said that we received the notice the day before yesterday, so we should be given time to respond.

Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro inquired how much time do you need for the response? The petitioner’s lawyer Barrister Salahuddin took the position that the parties should be given time to respond but the order should be suspended until then.

Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro remarked that we are giving you time, but what if any action is taken against the petitioner during this time? If the order is later withdrawn, how will the loss caused to the petitioner be redressed? Who will be responsible for the loss caused to the petitioner?

The court remarked that a person’s lifetime earnings are at stake here. The court asked whether the affected party was given notice on the degree issue?

The registrar said that my posting is new, I am not aware of it. Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro remarked that if you have come to the court, then you will have to answer. Maybe action has been taken against the petitioner due to personal interest.

The court remarked that questions are being raised on his degree. If someone files an application after 30, 35 years, the affected person should be called, we are not saying that action cannot be taken against them because it is present in the law, how can we put someone’s honor at stake. A court decision made without hearing the parties is also of no importance. Ex-parte judgment is not considered a good judgment.

Later, the court suspended the decision of the University of Karachi to revoke the degree of Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri. The court also stopped any further action on the recommendations of the Syndicate and the Fairmen’s Committee and adjourned the hearing until October 24.
