Hamza Shahbaz of the PML-N defeated Chaudhry Pervez Elahi by three votes after a crucial Punjab Assembly meeting on Friday to retain his post as chief minister of Punjab.
By citing Article 63A of the Constitution, Dost Mazari, the deputy speaker of the Punjab Assembly, ignored 10 votes cast by PML-Q members.As a consequence, Elahi, who had the support of the PTI, managed to get 176 votes, whereas Hamza earned 179 votes.However, following Hamza Shahbaz’s “surprising” victory in the Punjab Assembly, PTI Chairman Imran Khan urged the populace toTonight, there will be public demonstrations against the deputy speaker’s choice.
Imran Khan summoned party members to Liberty Chowk in Lahore, where they arrived and criticised Mazari’s selection.
At D-Chowk, workers in Islamabad also began a demonstration and began yelling at the government. Meanwhile, PTI workers in Karachi demonstrated in the public in opposition to Shahra-e-Faisal.
