Ten Pakistani businesses are seeking investment of a total of $51 million over the next 12 months to scale up their green projects, with support from the UK government.

The projects range from clean energy, transport, construction, agriculture and waste-to-resources.

The UK government has provided technical and financial advice to these businesses, which has helped them prepare their plans for presentation to investors.

Business representatives presented their plans to investors, banks and development finance institutions at a meeting in Karachi.

The UK government-backed Climate Finance Accelerator Pakistan (CFA Pakistan) programme, which is being implemented by DAI, has provided technical, financial and gender equality and social inclusion guidance to businesses.

The program supported 22 projects in Pakistan from 2022 to 2024, helping to mobilize $40 million in investment for environmental projects.

The 10 businesses were given the opportunity to connect directly with potential investors at the 2-day Climate Finance Accelerator Pakistan Investor Roadshow held on October 27 and 28.

These businesses, which are involved in agriculture and land use, waste recycling, clean energy, construction and electric transport, have investment projects worth a total of $120 million over the next 3 years.

The event was also attended by government representatives, investors and industry figures. The meeting considered how to increase private sector investment in environmental projects in Pakistan by removing policy, regulatory and market-related barriers.

Alison Blackburn, Deputy High Commissioner to the UK in Karachi, said that the UK’s climate partnership with Pakistan is increasingly focused on mobilising financial resources for climate projects, improving the capacity to cope with the impacts of climate change, and strengthening the necessary policy and institutional systems for practical action.

She said that the UK-Pakistan Green Compact, signed with the Government of Pakistan in December last year, provides a broader framework for joint actions in the areas of climate change, clean energy, financial assistance, policy dialogue, private investment, green skills and international cooperation.

At the event, Sindh Government Minister for Local Government, Housing and Town Planning Syed Nasir Hussain Shah reiterated the government’s commitment to mobilising financial resources for climate action in collaboration with the private sector and development partners.

She said that for Pakistan, climate change is not just an environmental issue but a major challenge linked to the economy, development, infrastructure, agriculture, cities, energy systems and public employment. The government’s responsibility now is to create conditions where private investors can invest in green projects with confidence.

On the other hand, CFA Pakistan team lead Warda Malik said that the aim of this initiative is to connect investment-ready Pakistani businesses with investors who can finance their projects, so that initial contacts can turn into long-term partnerships.

It should be noted that the selected businesses of 2026 include AS Enterprises, which produces bio-coal from crop residues, while Trash It is working on converting organic waste and crop residues into microbially-enhanced fertilizer. These projects can help in better utilization of agricultural waste and reduce its negative impact on the environment.

In the field of waste management and circular economy, Sahara Recycling plans to set up integrated centers for recycling urban waste, while Waste Busters JV Intertek is working on making organic waste usable through Black Soldier Fly technology.

In the clean energy and energy transition sector, BioWest Energy Ventures Limited is working on a biomethane and waste-to-energy system. Gosseed IT aims to provide access to solar energy for the underprivileged middle class, while BioEnergy Solutions Private Limited produces biomass fuel pellets from agricultural and organic waste.

In the construction sector, EcoAge AI is developing sensors and artificial intelligence-based systems to improve energy use in buildings. In the electric transport sector, BusCaro is working to bring urban commuters and transport providers on a single platform, while Daewoo Express is planning to develop a fleet of electric buses and charging infrastructure.

Under this programme, supported by the British government, 22 projects have been supported in Pakistan since 2022 and $40 million in investments have been mobilized for environmental projects.

If the current group of businesses succeed in securing the required investment, their projects could contribute to reducing pollution, creating jobs, better managing waste, and increasing access to clean energy and environmentally friendly transport.
