Islamabad High Court orders removal of YouTuber Rajab Butt’s name from Passport Control List

The Islamabad High Court has ordered the removal of YouTuber Rajab Butt’s name from the Passport Control List.

Justice Azam Khan of the Islamabad High Court, while issuing a 6-page judgment in the case of Rajab Butt’s removal from the PCL, ordered that the relevant authorities should immediately remove the applicant’s name from the Passport Control List, unless there is any other legal impediment or an order from a competent court.

The court said that this power to include a name in the Passport Control List is not unlimited, this power should be exercised fairly and legally, adding a name to the PCL affects the right to free movement of an individual.

The High Court said that solid reasons are required to impose any such ban, the purpose of keeping a name in the PCL is to ensure the presence of the individual in the investigating agency or court, if the purpose is achieved, the continuation of the ban becomes unnecessary.
