World-renowned singer, the uncrowned king of Saraiki and Punjabi music, Attaullah Khan Esakhelvi, lived 74 years.
Attaullah Khan Esakhelvi, who became known as Lala among his millions of fans, made Pakistan famous all over the world by singing more than 50,000 songs in seven different languages.
Born on August 19, 1951 in the Esakhel area of Punjab, Attaullah Khan Esakhelvi had a passion for singing since childhood.
His father’s disapproval kept him away from home at an early age, but this distance became the hallmark of Attaullah Khan’s art.
He started singing on Radio Pakistan Bahawalpur in 1972, and his voice created such magic that the next year he won the hearts of the public in PTV’s famous program Neelam Ghar and in a concert in his hometown of Mianwali.
Later, he recorded four folk albums in one sitting for a company in Faisalabad and when these albums were released in 1977, Attaullah Esakhelvi’s voice started resounding everywhere from the fields to the highways.
The song Ae Thiwa Mandri Da Thiwa gave Esakhelvi public popularity, while “Chan Kathaan Gazari Ai Raat Ve” took him to the heights of fame that any artist can only dream of.
By singing more than fifty thousand songs in seven languages, he made Pakistan famous all over the world. For this unparalleled recording, he got a place in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1994.
The government of Pakistan awarded him the Pride of Performance in 1991 and his fans affectionately call him “Lala”.
This journey, which started with simple village gatherings, became the identity of Pakistan on the global stage. Even today, Attaullah Esakhelvi is the same public voice that resonates in every heart.
