Social media platform Instagram is preparing to introduce a new video format to attract users and content creators who are passionate about long videos, under which selected creators will be able to upload horizontal videos of up to 90 minutes in length.

According to reports, the new format, called Features, aims to provide space for podcasts, interviews, comedy shows and other long videos that are difficult to present in the short duration of normal reels.

According to Social Media Today, Instagram is testing this feature with a limited number of creators in the United States, while it has also been tested in Brazil before.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri and vice president of product Tessa Lyons announced the new format in a video. On this occasion, they also discussed the changing trends in creating and watching videos on the platform.

Adam Mosseri said that Instagram is investing in longer videos and that ‘Features’ will be added to the platform’s other video formats, including Reels, Series, Live and TV.

He said that the project is currently in its early stages and that Instagram will seek feedback from creators and users during the test. According to him, the new feature aims to give content creators more time and space to share more detailed and interesting content with their established communities.

Instagram is likely to release more details about the results of the test of this feature and its introduction to all users later.
