Instant messaging application WhatsApp has decided to end support for several older smartphones as part of its new update cycle, which will affect both iPhone and Android users. The move has been taken to ensure security, performance and better compatibility with new features.
WhatsApp will no longer work on iPhones that cannot run iOS 15.1 or later. This includes older models such as the iPhone 5 series and iPhone 6 series, as they cannot be upgraded to the required software.
Devices that remain on older iOS versions will gradually lose WhatsApp features, and even messaging will stop.
iPhones that cannot install iOS 15.1 or later include the following devices:
- iPhone 5
- iPhone 5c
- iPhone 5s
- iPhone 6
- iPhone 6 Plus
All of these models will no longer be compatible with the latest version of WhatsApp.
