Two police officers were killed and one seriously injured in a shooting incident on a police team in a rural area of the Australian state of Victoria.
According to the international news agency, the shooting incident took place in the rural area of Porepunkah in Australia, where 10 officers arrived with a search warrant.
The heavily armed and extremely dangerous suspect opened fire on the police team indiscriminately and easily escaped into the forest after the attack.
As a result of the shooting, a 59-year-old detective and a 35-year-old senior constable died on the spot, while another officer was shot in the legs, which seriously injured him.
Victoria Police Commissioner Mike Bush paid tribute to the deceased officers, saying, “These brave officers sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.”
According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, police suspect that the attacker is a person with “Sovereign Citizen” views who does not recognize the legal status of the government.
A large-scale search operation is underway to arrest the suspect, but no arrests have been made so far.
