The news of the release of former Senator Mushahid Ahmed Khan brought a sense of relief and satisfaction. However, after reading his Facebook post, the reaction was not entirely pleasing.
He expressed gratitude towards Turkey, which in itself is understandable and appropriate. Yet a question naturally arises. What about Pakistan Did Pakistan have no role in this process Was there no contribution from Pakistan in securing his release
Either gratitude should have been expressed in a balanced manner or it should have been avoided altogether rather than selectively acknowledging one country while overlooking another.
This is not the first time such a pattern has been observed. In the previous instance as well, Pakistan made significant diplomatic efforts for his release. He was received by the Pakistani ambassador and extended hospitality was also arranged through Pakistani diplomatic channels. Despite these efforts, Pakistan was not acknowledged in the same way.
One is left wondering what wrong Pakistan has done that it is repeatedly excluded from appreciation while other countries are praised. Turkey, which has recognized Israel, is still appreciated without hesitation. On the other hand, Pakistan, which has not recognized Israel, continues to face criticism and allegations despite its positions and efforts.
If it is argued that gratitude towards Turkey was only for hospitality, then the question remains whether similar hospitality was not extended by the Pakistani ambassador. Were there no efforts by the Pakistani foreign office for his release
There is deep respect for Senator Mushahid Ahmed Khan. There is also a sense of affection and goodwill for him. However, it must also be stated honestly that his manner of concluding and framing public statements is often not well balanced.
In the previous instance, after participating in the flotilla for Gaza, his first public step upon return was to announce a separation from his political party. That was not the appropriate moment for such an announcement. The situation called for focus on the mission of Gaza and the journey itself rather than internal political declarations.
Genuine goodwill towards a public figure is not only about support. It also involves respectfully drawing attention to areas where improvement is needed. With full respect, it is important to point out that certain choices in communication and timing can sometimes weaken an otherwise strong message.
